Sikkim tour packages are among the most versatile and intriguing travel packages. Sikkim is an exciting and fascinating region, located in the Himalayan mountains. South Sikkim, north Sikkim, east Sikkim and west Sikkim each have amazing and interesting sights to offer those many visitors who come from all areas of India to experience this wonderful paradise.
Sikkim tour packages in most cases incorporate the following places: Namchi in the south, Lachung in the north, Gangtok in the east, and Pelling, Sikkim’s paradise, in the west.
A particular point of interest is the amazing Tsongo Lake, which is only 38 km from Gangtok and has an altitude of 12,400 feet. There is an old legend attached to the lake. It is said that Buddhist monks could foretell the future by looking at the color of the water of the lake. For the Sikkimese it is a holy place. Sikkim tour packages would be poorer, would it not be for this truly magnificent part of Sikkim.
The second biggest destination as far as tourism is concerned is Pelling, which is located in west Sikkim. Pelling is renowned for its natural beauty, offering breathtaking views of the mountains. The famous Sanga Choling monastery, which dates back to the year 1697, is a major attraction. Another Buddhist monastery in the area is Pemayangste, which was built in 1705.
Sikkim tour packages even offer you the opportunity to enjoy the hot springs which are renowned by the locals for their supposedly great healing powers, and through their high sulfur content, that is most likely true.
The springs are truly hot, with an average temperature in the region of 50 degrees centigrade (122 Fahrenheit). As with many other areas within Sikkim, there are monasteries here too, which can be visited. The Ralang monastery, a center of Tibetan Bhuddism, is just one of them.
There is little opportunity for comfortable overnight accommodation in this area and if you are planning to stay overnight, you have to provide your own bedding.
The guru Padmasambhava, one of the greatest Buddhist saints, visited Sikkim as early as the 8th century, and blessed the region by visiting the four corners of Sikkim. Legends lead us to believe he buried his many secret teachings here.
But Sikkim can look back also at a more recent past, equally important. In 1997, the Dalai Llama laid the first stone for the statue of Guru Padmasambhava which took more than three years of constant building work to complete. The location where the statue was erected, Samdruptse, lies in the south of Sikkim, and there are plans to create a national and international pilgrim center here.
Anyone who has used Sikkim tour packages undoubtedly remembers the Sikkimese cuisine. One of the favorites among visitors is the dumplings filled with minced meat or vegetables, called momo. No matter where you eat, from the cheapest restaurants to the most expensive, everyone will serve momos. The Tibetan influence can be felt when sampling Gya-thuk, a typical Tibetan noodle soup to which vegetables or meat is added.
As you can see, the Sikkim tour packages indeed offer something for everyone. Visit this wonderful part of India with one of our Sikkim tour packages.
